When patients require an implant or some other cosmetic dentistry application, a one size fits all is not acceptable. However, one of the problems dentists can have, particularly those who are generalists rather than specialists, is knowing the best way to refer a patient and what solutions are available.

However, United Smiles Centres is apparently hosting a referral seminar later this month at the King’s Fund in London, which could help.

The aim of the seminar is to provide dental practitioners with a range of suitable ways showing how United Smiles Centres can help a dental practice get the best out of referrals for both the dentists and more importantly the patient.

Moreover, the seminar will also highlight options available for dentists and patients, plus ongoing training for the dental practice.

The course, which lasts just one day on the 23rd March, will be attended by a number of experienced and well-respected cosmetic dentists including Dr Ken Parrish who runs his own implantology and periodontal practice in the USA.

In other, more lighthearted news, a Canadian dentist from the province of Alberta recently paid $10,000 for one of Elvis Presley’s dental crowns.

The same dentist – Dr. Michael Zuk paid $30,000 for one of John Lennon’s teeth last November, after being alerted by a colleague Dr. Henry Weiss who called Dr. Zuk.

Dr. Zuk who practices orthodontics told reporters: “They contacted me because they knew I am a sucker for celebrity teeth.”

The dentist is well known for collecting unusual things including a lock of Marilyn Monroe’s hair, autographed pictures of musician Gene Simmons and Gilligan’s Island star Bob Denver, and the signature of Woody Woodpecker cartoonist Walter Lantz, as well as a piece of one of Elvis Presley’s scarves.

Except for John Lennon’s yellowed and decayed teeth, Dr. Zuk proudly presents his artefacts in his dental practice. The tooth is stored elsewhere, but he does have a photograph of it on show.

“I don’t trust leaving it around,” Zuk said. “People steal my newspaper. Anybody who would steal your newspaper would steal one of John Lennon’s teeth.”
